Preparing your home for sale doesn’t have to mean tackling everything at once. Breaking it into a few manageable steps each week can make the process much easier.

Here’s a simple 4-week plan to help get your home ready to make a great first impression.

WEEK 1 — DECLUTTER & SIMPLIFY

☐ Go through closets and remove items you don’t regularly use
☐ Clear kitchen and bathroom countertops
☐ Pack away extra décor, collections and personal items
☐ Donate, sell or discard things you no longer need
☐ Start packing items you won’t need before moving
☐ Organize the garage, basement and storage areas

Goal: Create more open space and help rooms and storage areas feel larger.

WEEK 2 — MAKE SMALL REPAIRS

☐ Replace burned-out light bulbs
☐ Touch up noticeable scuffs or chipped paint
☐ Fix loose handles, knobs and cabinet hardware
☐ Repair dripping faucets or other small plumbing issues
☐ Check doors, windows and screens for minor repairs
☐ Take care of those little fixes you’ve been putting off

Goal: Show buyers that your home has been well cared for.

WEEK 3 — CLEAN & FRESHEN UP

☐ Give the kitchen and bathrooms a thorough cleaning
☐ Dust, vacuum and clean floors throughout the home
☐ Clean windows and mirrors
☐ Wipe down doors, trim and baseboards where needed
☐ Wash or freshen bedding and towels
☐ Remove pet odors and keep pet areas clean

Goal: Make your home feel fresh, bright and move-in ready.

WEEK 4 — GET READY TO SHOW

☐ Mow the lawn and tidy landscaping
☐ Sweep the walkway, porch and entry area
☐ Clean or freshen the front door
☐ Put away trash cans, hoses and outdoor clutter
☐ Remove extra items from rooms and countertops
☐ Add a few simple finishing touches — fresh towels, neatly made beds and an inviting entryway
☐ Do one final walk-through as if you were seeing your home for the first time

Goal: Make a great first impression — from the curb to the moment buyers walk through the door.

One Last Tip

You don’t need a perfect home to put it on the market. Focus on making it clean, uncluttered, well cared for and welcoming.

And remember — you don’t have to figure out what needs to be done on your own. An experienced real estate professional can help you decide which improvements are worth your time and money — and which ones you can skip.
